Further information

With an emphasis on recruiting and retaining Civil/Highways Engineering staff, South Gloucestershire Council plans to recruit 2 Apprentices to work specifically within the Environment and Community Services Department Streetcare division to support the qualified Engineering Team.

The vacancies will be based between the Badminton Road and Broad Lane offices (near Yate) and with some time ‘onsite’ at various construction sites (typically highways maintenance, bridges or road improvements). Given the travel required between offices and site, it is preferred that the successful Candidates have a driving licence

The successful candidates will undertake apprenticeship training and assessment by our Senior Engineers and Weston College staff, learning on the job and attending Weston College on a day release basis.

About the Apprenticeship:

As an Apprentice Civil Engineer Technician you will have the following daily duties;

• Site Surveying
• Outline and detail design
• Estimating costs and timing or works
• Reading and Interpreting specifications
• Understanding drawings (including CAD)
• Liaising with staff in other teams in the Council or external stakeholders
• Working with a supply chain and subcontractors
• Liaising with Business Development Managers to understand enquiries
• Contacting clients and customers to discuss enquiries, request for service and quotations
• Working on Microsoft products such as word, outlook and excel

Things to consider:

. Weekly rate: £221.26
. Hours: 37 Hours (Monday to Friday although occasional service requirements may
   require work outside normal hours. (Standard lunch break is 45 minutes).
. Duration: Expected 24 months
