Summary of Post

The Behaviour Support Service is one of four services within Integra Schools that supports vulnerable groups of children and young people.

The Service is commissioned directly by schools to provide a range of services and activities to help improve the outcomes for children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and their families.

The role of the Behaviour Specialist (Student and Family Support Worker - SFSW) is to implement agreed programmes of support, using a flexible approach, working in partnership with relevant school staff and families, in order to raise pupils’ attendance, achievement and attainment and improve their behaviour. This post is for the primary phase of education in schools.


Main Duties

As a Behaviour Specialist (SFSW) your role is to:
• Support class teachers, senior leaders and other Behaviour Support Specialists in analysing individual pupils’ difficulties through careful classroom observation and assessment, and through communication with pupils, teaching staff, family members and other professionals in order to develop and support action plans for individual pupils e.g. Single Assessment Framework or Education Healthcare Plans.
• Contribute to the planning and delivery of a range of supportive interventions to pupils (either as individuals or part of a group) with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties as commissioned by schools. The post holder will need to process and prioritise commissioned work and respond flexibly to changing circumstances and new demands. The post holder should evaluate interventions critically and amend and develop work accordingly.
• Work with parents to help them contribute to improved outcomes for their children, and to provide them with support when attending meetings within school and with other agencies.
• Maintain confidential casework records for each pupil, including details of work carried out with each individual pupil and including data relevant to that pupil’s difficulties, providing written/verbal reports and feedback as required.
• Attend and contribute to regular team meetings and casework supervision with colleagues.
• Be involved in school reviews of plans/programmes within the Single Assessment Framework.
• Liaise effectively with other services and agencies about pupil’s needs, having due regard to confidentiality.
• Plan and deliver training for staff in individual schools or groups of schools through staff meetings, Inset and workshops to disseminate good practice in the management of behaviour.


Selection Criteria

Essential

• Nationally recognised qualification at level 3 in a relevant discipline e.g. education, health, social care
• Experience of working with children and families in a school setting, to include special educational needs and disabilities
• Awareness of the impact of family, social and environmental factors on the educational and life chances of children and young people;
• Knowledge of child development and the social and emotional factors that affect a child’s capacity to learn
• Ability to develop effective relationships with children and their parents/carers and other professionals;
• Experience and confidence in dealing with challenging situations with the ability to resolve a variety of problems independently;
• An ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines;
• Be able to manage change in a competitive environment
• Demonstrate good verbal communication skills, listening and observation skills with the ability to plan and deliver training for school staff
• Able to make independent judgements and exercise initiative within agreed limits
• Able to maintain accurate records and present information clearly and concisely
• Skills and ability to use Microsoft Office software
• Able to travel to Council sites and other locations.

Desirable

• Counselling/mediation experience with children or young people (KSE 2)
• Knowledge of codes of practice and Local offer.

This post is based at Broad Lane Offices, working 29.6 hours per week (4 days), Term Time Only. Please be informed, the quoted salary range will be pro-rated to reflect that this is a part time and term time only position.

A full UK driving licence and use of vehicle is essential.
