Job Summary/Person Specification

Further information

South Gloucestershire Council Cultural Services has been awarded funding by the Heritage Lottery Fund for a South Gloucestershire Second World War Stories project. Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project will explore the impact of the Second World War and growing up in the post war period. The Project will research Second World War collections held by South Gloucestershire museums and use these to inspire reminiscence sessions for older people to share memories, recording particular stories through further interviews. We aim to create a small collection of short films with stories that are easily accessible, particularly for a younger audience.

We will share the project through schools workshops, public events, training for heritage groups and museums, a touring exhibition, publishing the stories and films on-line alongside resources for future work and extending existing digital platforms such as Know Your Place. Special commemoration events feature evacuation days with Avon Valley Railway. We will collaborate with local historical societies to publishing stories of Second World War soldiers commemorated on local war memorials alongside existing First World War stories currently available on the First World War website.

The Community Cultural Services Team is looking to recruit a Project Engagement Officer to deliver this project through engagement sessions and commemoration events, the creation of resources including an exhibition, documentation of particular stories and the creation of digital outputs including short films.

This post is part time, 18.5 hours per week and a limited term contract for 18 months. This post is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and due to start in April 2018.

Interviews due to take place on Friday 9 March 2018.
