South Gloucestershire Council are seeking an organised and motivated Business Support Apprentice to join the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) team at the Badminton Road, Yate. Please note that the work location is subject to change as the team are due to be relocated to the Kingswood Civic Centre at some stage in 2019.

Over the duration of the 18 month apprenticeship you will be trained and gain work experience of carrying out a variety of duties competently and effectively. You will also complete a Level 3 in Business Administration at SGS College in Filton, which includes weekly day release.

You will receive supervision, guidance and support from your workplace supervisor and a workplace mentor throughout your apprenticeship.

The DoLS team are responsible for arranging and co-ordinating assessments for adults with social care needs, which includes supporting diverse client groups: older people, disabled people, adults with mental health needs, adults with learning disabilities. The service provides high quality assessments, reviews and services which support the independence and wellbeing of older people and vulnerable people within South Gloucestershire.

The Business Support Apprentice plays a vital role in this service by ensuring all applications are acknowledged and processed in accordance with statutory requirements. As part of the apprenticeship you will develop and gain knowledge of these statutory requirements and the importance that your role plays in shaping the service.

This role will often require completing repetitive tasks in order to fully understand the nature and starting stages of the service. The role will also offer you a variety of other tasks as you grow and develop your knowledge throughout the apprenticeship.

Main Duties

As an apprentice in this role, you will be providing administrative support to the DoLS team and interacting with customers, colleagues and partners to maintain strong working relationships.

You will be required to:

Collate, maintain records and update systems.
Communicate effectively to service users, professionals and partnership agencies using a variety of media.
Deal with email queries on a daily basis and process.
Handle incoming post, complete and send letters, scan documents and save to internal specialist systems, process and help with specialist projects when required.
Handle sensitive and confidential information and adhere to the council’s information sharing policies and procedures.

You will be trained and gain experience in providing a front line service for internal and external service users and on internal systems used within the department.

Selection Criteria

Essential

• Must hold a minimum qualification of 3 grade C’s at GCSE including English, Maths, or equivalent or be willing to work towards Level 2 in English and Maths.

• You will have good attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, error free work.

• Good IT skills in the use of computer packages, such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.

• Be able to undertake repetitive tasks and willing to learn.

• Able to deal with people courteously, together with the ability to develop good communication skills, person to person, on the telephone and in writing.

You need to ensure you are able to get to place of work, Badminton Road Offices, Yate and Kingswood Civic Centre at some stage in 2019.

Interviews will take place on Thursday 14th February 2019. As part of the interview you will complete a short task that involves inputting data.

This is a limited term contract for 18 months.
