Based at: Service Headquarters (Portishead)
Contract: Temporary until 31 March 2021 (with potential to become permanent)
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Salary: £32,029-£34,788 per annum

We have an immediate vacancy for an experienced HR Advisor with the confidence and professional competence to provide practical and advisory support on a broad range of issues. This is an interesting and varied generalist role working within a small team. You will have designated responsibility for a number of Fire Stations and departments and will establish working relationships with the management teams to ensure people issues are identified and addressed correctly.

You will provide comprehensive advice and guidance on attendance, grievance, discipline and general casework issues. You will proactively monitor absence levels and ensure appropriate support is provided to employees through occupational health, counselling and other welfare interventions.

You will also assist in the development of HR policies to ensure organisational issues are appropriately managed and improvements made where required. The role involves the development and delivery of training to managers on a range of HR issues and providing HR expertise within recruitment, selection and promotion panels. The post involves working closely with managers, Trade Unions and partner organisations to resolve issues and identify improvements.

The ideal candidate should meet the following essential criteria:
• CIPD qualified (or working towards this).
• Substantial HR experience gained at Advisor level.
• Practical knowledge of interpreting employment law and HR policies and dealing with a range of complex matters.
• Experience of developing and delivering HR training or presentations.
• Ability to develop, draft and implement HR policies.
• Experience of consulting with Trade Unions.
• Proven experience of contributing to HR projects.
• Possess a problem solving, consultative approach and ability to resolve issues with professional credibility and accountability.
• Able to work unsupervised, make appropriate decisions and possess the confidence and ability to assume responsibility for tasks with minimum direction.
• Ability to interpret and handle confidential data in compliance with the GDPR.

This role is based at our Service Headquarters which is shared with Avon & Somerset Police. In order to comply with security clearance you will be required to complete a mandatory security vetting check if you are successful at interview.
