Further information

Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.

We're planning for the future; building and improving the roads, railways, schools, green spaces, and houses.

We've achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference.

How you’ll make a difference:

Our Road Safety Team deliver road safety and sustainable education to communities throughout South Gloucestershire for the Council’s statutory duties and policies for Road Safety.

As our apprentice you’ll make a difference by making young people safe by educating them in road safety and support safe sustainable journeys for the future and independence.

What will a typical day look like?

You’ll have the opportunity to work across the 4 avenues of our team: primary and pre-school, secondary schools and adults, Bikeability cycle training and collision investigation.

You will play a key role in promoting, facilitating and delivering road safety education in nurseries, primary and secondary schools across South Gloucestershire. You will learn how to deliver road safety workshops, arrange for external theatre-in-education companies to visit schools, help with mini scooter and pedestrian training and support the administration of Bikeability cycle training.

And if that isn’t enough for you, we will train you to assist with the inputting of data into the Council’s injury accident database and develop knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and specialist equipment. You will also have the opportunity to undertake Road Safety GB training.

We will allocate you a workplace mentor to give you guidance and support throughout your 18 month apprenticeship and completion of a Level 3 in Business Administration.

What we need from you:

Ideally hold a minimum qualification in GCSE English and Maths at grade C or 4 and above, or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Math’s. If you do not have these you must be willing to undertake and gain Functional Skills in English and Maths as part of the apprenticeship.

Be confident in public speaking.

You will have good attention to detail to produce accurate, error free work.

Be able to plan and organise your work.

Excellent written and communication skills.

Things we need you to know:

Interviews will take place virtually using Teams Meeting.

We anticipate to be able to offer you a start in September due to COVID 19.

The salary for this apprenticeship is set at the current National Minimum Wage;

Hourly rate
£8.72 Aged 25+
£8.20 Aged 21-24
£6.45 Aged 18-20
£4.55 Under 18

As part of this training route you do need to undertake a basic skills assessment as part of the selection process. These will be emailed to you by the training provider, SGS College.

The apprenticeship training requires you to attend day release on a Wednesday at SGS College, Filton Avenue, Filton, Bristol, BS34 7AF. (Please note this could be subject to change in light of COVID 19, to ensure you are safe in both the working and learning environment. The learning could be delivered remotely).

You’ll be completing a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship which will provide you with a highly transferable set of knowledge and skills, which you gain by working for us. At college you’ll get to learn the following;

• Principles of Business Administration
• Personal and Professional Development
• Managing Performance
• Your Organisation
• Communication in a Business Environment
• Project Management
• ICT for Business

Your apprenticeship requires you to complete an end point assessment which will see you demonstrate what you have learned as an apprentice and how it can be applied in any other organisation. This will be another chance for you to shine!

The end point assessment consists of a Knowledge Test (multiple choice), Portfolio based interview and Presentation. Sounds Scary? Don’t worry, we and your assessor will give you plenty of support and encouragement to ensure you are prepared and confident to complete this stage. We also have plenty of apprentices here that can give you tips and help ease any nerves or concerns, because they have completed an end point assessment themselves!

In addition to your workplace mentor, you will also be allocated an assessor by SGS College, who will come to visit you at work to complete reviews. These reviews are simply to make sure you are on track and happy.

We understand this is a lot of information and this apprenticeship might not be for everyone, but if you’ve read the above and are still excited about this opportunity we would love to hear from you.
