Lead Road Maintenance Operative
Salary: £23,080pa

How you’ll make a difference
As the Lead Operative to a two man team, you will be responsible for delivering small highway repairs and highways maintenance works across the whole highway network across South Gloucestershire, meeting the needs of our residents and keeping our places safe. In this varied and busy role, you will provide a one stop shop for managing the many small works, such as replacing damaged kerbs, slabs and street furniture, clearing blocked gullies and catch pits, erecting highway signs, fence repairs, clearing vegetation, edging out footpaths, sweeping up spillages, digging trenches for pipes and cables, making safe damage and setting up basic traffic management. You will need to be flexible in your approach to work as the role requires you to react quickly to changing priorities providing support to urgent situations.

What does a typical day look like?
You will be leading a team of two operatives in the delivery of small highways maintenance works, ensuring that a good standard of workmanship is achieved and that performance and productivity levels are met and that appropriate control measures are adhered to including the health, safety and welfare of yourself, your colleagues and the public.
Tasks that your team will support:
Replacing damaged kerbs, slabs and street furniture, edging out footpaths and fence repairs
Clearing blocked gullies and catch pits clearing vegetation and other obstruction, sweeping up spillages and road detritus
Erecting highway signs and street name plates and setting up basic traffic management
Supporting the work of the wider Highways construction teams, digging trenches for pipes and cables
General works such as digging, labouring, and loading work including general snow clearance work when required.
You may be required to be available to be on-call at evenings and at weekends, on a rota basis, as mutually agreed with the StreetCare Operations Manager.
In order to be considered you must have a full UK driving licence with experience of driving a long wheel based transit (style) tipper with recent relevant experience in a similar commercial or public sector highways construction or maintenance role.

What we need from you:
Accredited to the Street Works Qualification Register (Certificates LA & 01, 02 & 03) or substantial relevant experience to enable completion of the above within six month.
You will be able to demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of core highway maintenance procedures and processes and able to show a basic competence in the operation of table.
You must hold a category B licence for manual transmission vehicles with experience in driving vehicles at 3500kg.
Although not essential you may also have the following:
Accredited Street Works Qualification Register (Certificates LA & 01 to 08)
NVQ Level 2 diploma in Highways Maintenance (Construction)
Driving licence to category C, C+E and Driver CPC certification
