Area Manager (Catering) - Broad Lane Offices, Yate
Summary of Post
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to take up the role of an Area Manager within our Integra Catering team. Under the direction of the Operational Team Leader, you will provide cover and be responsible for task supervision of the day to day catering operations at a number of establishments. By having responsibility for a portfolio of units, you will need to manage your team’s performance and delivery, maximise the efficiency of available resources and deliver efficient services that meet the needs of customers, whilst also having the ability to influence the direction of travel of the catering service.

Customer service within your units
Day to day catering operations across a number of schools
Maximising efficiency of available resources and delivering efficient services
Financial performance of your area and units
Responsible for the control of hygiene, health & safety and security of the units within your portfolio

Main Duties
Main duties include:
The day to day supervision of staff including allocation of duties and work rotas (based on approved hours allocated to units); basic routine training of staff; assisting in staff recruitment; the control of hygiene, movement of stock and staff, health & safety and security of the units within their responsibility.
A moderate amount of lifting may be required in the execution of the post holder’s duties, such as the use and movement of catering and cleaning equipment. The post holder will sometimes be based in a school kitchen (e.g. when providing operational cover).
If relevant, provide supervision and support to staff, ensuring team members receive development opportunities and individuals are coached and developed to reach their full potential.
Assist in and organise programmes of work as approved by line management.
Apply specialist technical knowledge and expertise to assess situations and resolve day to day problems and provide input as necessary in order to meet changing operational needs. Including the handling of cash.
Ensure work is completed to required standards and corrective action is taken where necessary and where appropriate that recommendations are made to improve service quality.
To ensure timely and accurate records are kept on work activities, providing information as required.
Ensure that services are delivered with a positive customer focus.
Communicate effectively with external contractors and suppliers ensuring that value for money is obtained for the organisation.
Ensure safe systems of working are followed and that all statutory requirements and professional standards are complied with in order to secure the safety of staff and customers.
Assist in the control of resources, monitoring costs, and accounting for any variations from projected estimates for work undertaken.
Selection Criteria

Essential
Previous experience in a food preparation and production environment
An up-to-date Level 2 qualification in Food Safety
Good communication skills and a competent level of numeracy skills, along with the ability to present clear instructions
Ability to supervise a team in an operational setting, across different sites
Ability to prioritise own work and work as part of team
A knowledge of workplace Health & Safety issues in an operational setting (catering)
Desirable
Level 3 food hygiene certificate
Experience of supervising workers in an operational area
Knowledge of workplace ICT skills relevant to operational activities

Use of a vehicle:
The nature of the duties of this post will require you to travel on council business, so you must either have a current driving licence and use of a car, or have access to appropriate means of travel.
If you use your vehicle on authorised council business, you will receive a mileage payment based on the Inland Revenue Authorised Mileage Allowance Payment Scheme (AMAPS). The allowance is provided on the condition that your own insurance covers you for business use and indemnifies the council against claim (including those concerning passengers) arising out of the use of the vehicle on official business.
