Further information

As our apprentice your enthusiasm and willingness to learn will be a welcome addition to our team at South Gloucestershire Council who are making a real difference to the lives of the people who live, work and learn here.

We’ve achieved a great deal, but were ambitious about the future. Join us and be part of something bigger.

How you’ll make a difference:

Our Parking Team play a key role in the delivery of parking enforcement in South Gloucestershire such as on-street parking, bus lanes and controlled parking in residential areas.

As our apprentice you’ll learn how to support the appeals officers by undertaking a variety of administration duties such as; postal duties, scanning, downloading and allocating photographs to cases, dealing with parking permits, monitoring the email inbox and dealing with enquiries or passing to the appropriate team member for action.

You’ll spend some time shadowing our (very nice) Civil Enforcement Officers travelling throughout South Gloucestershire to understand why Penalty Charge Notices are issued.

Once you feel settled you’ll help us answer the telephone and speak to our residents or transfer calls to other team members.

And if that isn’t enough for you and you want to learn more, we can train you to develop knowledge of the statutory processes and traffic regulations to respond to challenges and appeals against issued Penalty Charge Notices.

We will allocate you a workplace mentor to give you guidance and support throughout your 13 month apprenticeship and completion of a Level 2 in Business Administration.

What we need from you:

•Ideally hold a minimum qualification in GCSE English and Maths at grade D or 3 and above, or Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Math’s. If you do not have these you must be willing to undertake and gain Functional Skills in English and Maths as part of the apprenticeship.
•You will have good attention to detail to produce accurate, error free work.
•Good IT skills.
•To be enthusiastic, motivated and willing to learn.
•Be organised and have good communication skills.

Things we need you to know:

We would really like you to come and spend some time with us so you get a feel for what we do and help you decide if this is the apprenticeship for you. Please contact Michael Barnes to arrange a visit on 01454 868491 or email: michael.barnes@southglos.gov.uk

You’ll also have opportunity to take an additional qualification, Wamitab Level 3 Award in Notice Processing. What is this we hear you ask?

The Level 3 Award in Notice Processing will give you the knowledge and understanding of Information Management, processing Penalty Charge Notices and how to respond to Challenges and Appeals.

The salary for this apprenticeship is set at the current National Minimum Wage;

Hourly rate
£8.21 Aged 25+
£7.70 Aged 21-24
£6.15 Aged 18-20
£4.35 Under 18

As part of this training route you do need to undertake a basic skills assessment as part of the selection process. These will take place with the training provider SGS College at their campus in Filton.

The apprenticeship training requires you to attend day release on a Wednesday at SGS College, Filton Avenue, Filton, Bristol, BS34 7AF.

You’ll be completing a Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship which will provide you with a highly transferable set of knowledge and skills, which you gain by working for us. At college you’ll get to learn the following;

• Communication in a business environment
• Principles of providing administrative services
• Principles of business document production and information management
• Understand employer organisations
• Manage personal performance and development
• Develop working relationships with colleagues
• Functional Skills Maths, English and ICT Level 1 (Only if you do not have any GCSE’s in English and Maths at Grade C or 4 and above)
• Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
• Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Plus a selection of optional units relevant to your job role core skills. When you aren’t at college, the rest of your time will be spent with us learning on the job.

In addition to your workplace mentor, you will also be allocated an assessor by SGS College, who will come to visit you at work to complete reviews. These reviews are simply to make sure you are on track and happy.

We understand this is a lot of information and this apprenticeship might not be for everyone, but if you’ve read the above and are still excited about this opportunity we would love to hear from you.
