Summary of Post

You will assist to develop and maintain a supportive living environment to meets the needs of individual service users whilst maximising their independence and to provide physical, social and emotional care support.

There are four permanent posts. All positions include working a variety of early and late shifts and alternate weekends and are based at Alexandra Way Care Home in Thornbury

Main Duties

To undertake a high standard of care for service users – this includes bathing, washing and dressing, including those temporarily unwell.

To assist service users to eat and drink and to serve meals to service users in the dining room or a place the service user choose to eat.

To have special responsibility for individuals through key working.

To maintain service user records as necessary and occasionally prepare relevant information on residents both verbally and in writing.

To contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse.

To support individuals experiencing a change in their care requirements and provision and to enable them to maintain and develop their personal skills.

To participate in and promote the Quality Assurance monitoring system.

To contribute to administration and recording of medication as per current guidelines.

To be aware of current legislation – Health and Safety at Work, Electricity regulations, COSHH, fire procedures, security checks of building.

Selection Criteria

To enable us to shortlist in a fair and unbiased way it is absolutely vital that you provide us with sufficient information to demonstrate how you meet or exceed the criteria outlined in the vacancy description. You must have knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.

You should be able to communicate effectively in a variety of media.

You must be willing to work weekends and bank holidays.

You should be flexible and adaptable to respond to unpredictable or unexpected situations.

If you do not already possess NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Care you must be willing to undertake the necessary training to achieve it.

Exemplifying the Council's values and behaviours


Experience of general care work or working with the elderly would be advantageous.

It would be ideal to have some knowledge of Care Plans, Case Reviews, Community Care Legislation and report writing.
