As a responder you will undertake emergency care/rapid response, including responding to Telecare equipment and lifeline alarms, emergency personal care, assisting South Gloucestershire residents in crisis and, if necessary, support them in their own homes until a Care Provider is allocated.

We are keen to attract applications from individuals able to offer flexible hours to compliment our existing bank of workers.

About the team

The Emergency Rapid Response Team is part of Adult Services within the Children, Adults and Health directorate. Generally all arms of this service provide a professional social care service in respect of emergencies which reach crisis level out of working hours and cannot wait until the next working day

The Emergency Rapid Response Team consists of 20/40 responders with 2 FTE managers out of hours and 4 PT managers on call during office hours. The Team is managed by a Registered Manager.

Main Duties

Deliver care for cases allocated by senior colleagues ensuring that services are effectively provided in line with regulations and codes of practice.

Support service users with personal and practical care, in the taking of medication and accessing facilities.

Enable service users to live as independently as possible by helping them and assisting with everyday tasks. If relevant: assist in the use of equipment and materials.

Promote engagement in social activity liaising with other statutory, voluntary and private agencies as appropriate.

Ensure that work practices meet the required standards and that customers are provided with the help, information and support they need.

Assist and support volunteers and work with local community networks and groups to allow them to gain the necessary skills and knowledge, encouraging a culture of inclusion.

Record progress in care plans, logs, reviews and incident forms so that documents are completed accurately, on time and meet Council standards.

Take action to refer issues as necessary in accordance with Safeguarding Procedures in order to protect vulnerable people.


Selection Criteria

To enable us to shortlist in a fair and unbiased way it is absolutely vital that you provide us with sufficient information to demonstrate how you meet or exceed the criteria outlined in the vacancy description. Essential

You will have training and experience of working in similar service areas.

You will hold a CQC Care Certificate or be prepared to complete the relevant training to obtain the qualification within 12 weeks.

Have a vocational qualification e.g. QCF or NVQ 2 or above is desirable.

You will show sensitivity and empathy in your work.

You will demonstrate knowledge of professional care groups and external contacts e.g. GPs, nursing services and emergency services

You are able to manage challenging behaviour e.g. behavioural difficulties in homes and/or the community

You will demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

You will hold an up to date driving licence. The service is currently looking at using several small vehicles in order to carry lifting equipment. You may be asked to drive a Rapid Response vehicle during your shift.

Use of a vehicle: The nature of the duties of this post will require you to travel on Council business on a regular basis, so you must either have a current driving licence and provide a car, or have access to appropriate means of travel.
If you use your vehicle on authorised Council business, you will receive a mileage payment based on the Inland Revenue Authorised Mileage Allowance Payment Scheme (AMAPS). The allowance is provided on the condition that your own insurance covers you for business use and indemnifies the Council against claim (including those concerning passengers) arising out of the use of the vehicle on official business. You will also be eligible for a car loan if you meet the criteria within the Council’s Car Loan Scheme.
