Summary of Post

We are looking for a committed and flexible individual to join the Schools Catering Service to assist in the kitchen and dining room as required on a casual basis. As a Catering Assistant, you will help in the preparation of food and food service including washing up, general cleaning and other tasks associated with catering. A moderate amount of lifting is necessary in the execution of the post holder’s duties such as the movement of dining furniture, saucepans and provisions.

As this is a casual position, our need for this work to be carried out will be on an occasional, irregular and ad hoc basis. This would be the perfect role for an individual looking to take on some extra hours during the school term. If we offer you an assignment, you do not have to accept the offer however your flexibility and availability will ensure continuity in service. If you do accept, your hours and pattern of work for each assignment will be agreed and details will be provided to you beforehand.
Please note, we are not obligated to offer you work, and you are not entitled to a minimum number of hours of work per day, per week or per year.

This post has an hourly rate of £8.98.

Main Duties

The key duties include:

• Basic food preparation ensuring the highest possible standards of hygiene.
• Counter service
• Setting Tables and Chairs for Service
• Cleaning of the kitchen to include washing up
• Communication with pupils and staff in a polite and friendly manner.

Use of a vehicle: The nature of the duties requires you to travel on Council business on a regular basis, so you must have a current driving licence and regular use of a vehicle.

If you use your vehicle on authorised Council business, you will receive a mileage payment based on the Inland Revenue Authorised Mileage Allowance Payment Scheme (AMAPS). The allowance is provided on the condition that your own insurance covers you for business use and indemnifies the Council against claim (including those concerning passengers) arising out of the use of the vehicle on official business.
