Coffee Lounge Barista – 20 hours per week

Summary of post

We have a new and exciting opportunity to join the team as a Barista in our brand new coffee lounge in Kingswood Civic Centre. We’re looking for someone who is hard working, friendly and approachable and who can deliver high levels of customer service.

Your duties will include preparing beverage and light food products, operating a till, stock checking and other necessary duties to support a smooth running service. You will be working within a busy team who are highly motivated and have a positive team spirit to achieve challenging targets and standards, whilst always maintaining a strong customer focus. Whilst previous barista experience would be beneficial, it’s not essential as we can provide in house training.

The coffee lounge will be open six days a week (Monday - Saturday) 8.00am to 6.00pm with shifts available between from 7.30am and 6.30pm. We are looking for people who can offer flexibility and are also able to accommodate a shift pattern of three or four in six days.

Main duties

• Welcoming and greeting customers and providing excellent customer service, whilst constantly striving to improve customer relations

• Prepare beverages and light food products and ensure all displays are well stocked and replenished to maintain and anticipate customers’ needs

• Till work, including collecting and processing customer payments for cash, credit and debit cards

• Able to be adaptable in performing many different tasks within the store during each shift

• To prepare, deliver and present buffet functions as and when required for business customers

• Able to listen to customer issues or complaints, dealing with any concerns in an efficient yet friendly manner and reporting to the manager / shift supervisor on duty without delay

• Maintain a consistent attendance and be punctual at all times

• To work flexible hours that include early mornings, evenings, Saturdays and bank holidays - excluding Christmas day, Boxing day and New Year’s day

• To work under pressure whilst maintaining a calm and approachable demeanour at all times

• Maintain clean and hygienic work areas, including the deep cleaning of machinery where required

• Comply with health, safety and hygiene guidelines and regulations

• Complete opening and closing duties for each shift including clean down of all customer areas


Selection criteria

Essential

• Previous experience in a similar role required, or be willing and able to undertake basic training

• You will require practical skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to learn to use basic tools and equipment

• Able and willing to follow basic processes and procedures to ensure the job is carried out safely

Desirable

• NVQ1 or equivalent qualification or equivalent barista experience

• Foundation certificate in food hygiene
