Summary of post

This is a new fixed term post to assist in the delivery of communications and stakeholder engagement for the Cribbs Patchway metrobus extension (CPME) project. The role is full time and fixed term until the end of March 2022.

Metrobus, is a new, modern public transport service for Bristol and South Gloucestershire which launched in May 2018. There are currently three operational routes. The Cribbs Patchway metrobus extension is an extension of the North Fringe to Hengrove metrobus route and will provide a route from Patchway to Cribbs Causeway through the Cribbs Patchway New Neighbourhood (a major mixed use development site on the former Filton Airfield). The development of this scheme will have a significant impact on the local road network during its construction.

The focus of the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Lead role will be to work with the project team, to deliver the communications and engagement with key stakeholders as the scheme develops. The role may also support other transport projects.

Main Duties

• Working across the different disciplines of the communications team, and with the CPME project team, to review and update the Cribbs Patchway metrobus extension communications and engagement plan, agree objectives, key messages, budgets and delivery channels.

• Delivering, monitoring, evaluating and updating the CPME communications and engagement plan as required.

• Delivering communications and engagement activities to agreed timescales and budgets.

• Working with partners involved in the delivery of the CPME project such as road works contractors.

• Providing excellent communications consultancy and advice to internal and external stakeholders.

• Supporting the wider strategic communications team and CPME project team in the event of crisis/reputation management situations.

• Leading and undertaking external stakeholder and partner engagement activities, including any administrational requirements.

• Copywriting information for residents, road users and businesses including content for websites, online newsletters and social media messages.

• Responding to queries on the CPME project via letter, email and social media in agreement with the CPME team

• Leading on the formation and ongoing management of a CPME Stakeholder Liaison Group to include councillors, members of the public, business representatives and other key stakeholders affected by the construction work.

• Developing an in-depth understanding of the CPME project and construction programme, as well as the overall corporate context and policy environment.

• Working proactively as part of a multi-disciplinary communications team.

• Supporting other transport projects with communications and engagement consultancy as required.

• Ensuring all work is to a high standard to maintain and enhance the reputation of the council.

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria

Required experience:

• Degree (BA or BSc) or equivalent relevant experience

• Experience gained in a multi-disciplined/full service marketing/communications/engagement role

• Experience of providing communications and engagement advice and consultancy to internal colleagues and external partners/customers, interpreting project briefs and responding with appropriate campaign proposals

• Experience of developing and implementing fully integrated communications campaigns and engagement plans, from initial concept through to post-campaign evaluation.

• Demonstrable copywriting skills for a range of audiences and formats (print and online)

• Event management experience

• Experience of commissioning and overseeing design and print for a range of communications materials (print and online)

• Experience of commissioning work from external suppliers (e.g. photographers) and overseeing their work

• Good interpersonal skills - able to maintain effective working relationships at all levels incl. team working

• Excellent attention to detail - presenting work to a consistently high standard, accurate copywriting and strong proof reading skills required

• Able to act as sole communications representative at internal and external meetings

• Able to lead on projects, prioritise workload, work on own initiative, manage several tasks at once

• Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, Word, OneNote, Excel and PowerPoint)

• Flexible and creative attitude combined with good time management skills


Desirable Criteria

• Experience of using web content management systems would be an advantage

• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIM) preferred – hold or working towards a professional marketing qualification (e.g. CIM)
