Further information

Welcome to South Gloucestershire Councils Corporate Parenting Service. We have some new and exciting development opportunities arising from investment in services for our looked after children within an integrated therapeutic parenting and permanence strategy and an increased Local Offer developed with our care leavers that we are proud of.

We are keen for new people to join us who share our passion to be the best Corporate Parents we can be for all our looked after children and care leavers so that they grow up and move into adulthood within a safe and loving environment. We have our ‘Bottom Lines’ to set high standards of practice and are committed to continuous development of our service.

Investment for our children means also investing in both your personal and professional development, with various career development pathways and CPD provided by external subject matter experts.

South Gloucestershire Council are committed to the use Signs of Safety and this is incorporated into all work and reports undertaken. We work closely with our children and young people and we are developing our partnership with our foster carers within the ethos of ‘Nothing About Us Without Us’. We use Signs of Success and Signs of Belonging to underpin our practice and as an employee you will be given full support and training in its effective use in your practice.

We are fortunate to have a very supportive Senior Leadership Team and Cabinet, who listen to our service users’ feedback and react with full support and investment in our services – such as the newly formed Therapeutic Fostering Pathway and the Care Leavers’ Local Offer and additional investment in our foster carers.

Training for fostering social workers and foster carers in a therapeutic parenting approach is supported by additional resources to deliver this service. As part of the ReBoot West partnership we also offer training for Personal Advisors in Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) working alongside care leavers.

The Corporate Parenting Service is divided into 4 main areas of practice;

• Adoption
• Fostering - including the new Therapeutic roles
• Looked After Children (LAC)
• Transition to Independence (some authorities refer to this as Care Leavers)
