Summary of Post

Cambrian Green Day Services is a Dementia Day Care facility offering day care to residents of South Gloucestershire. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has the ability to make connections whilst having an understanding and awareness of how Dementia can affect individuals. The post holder needs to have the ability to make use of positive person centred approaches and offer support that is feeling based and enables all to fulfil their potential.

Main Duties

Under the guidance of the Operational Manager and Day Opportunity Facilitator, the post holder will assist and support people to participate in meaningful occupation through activities during the day. Also to access opportunities from the community.

To provide activities which help adults who attend to achieve realistic outcomes including sustaining lifelong skills and improve on their quality of life, as specified within their Assessed and ongoing support needs. This includes personal care and other daily support needs for individuals who attend.

As well as working at the Centre with Service users this role includes the responsibility of daily driving a minibus to collect service users to/from their homes within South Gloucestershire. To ensure the bus meets H&S specifications which will include internal and external cleanliness.



Selection Criteria

Essential

You will be required to complete a Midas test to be able to drive a 16 seater minibus to collect service users to/from the centre and to access community activities. (You must hold a Full driving licence for a minimum of 3 years and have category D1 recorded on the licence).

You will have experience of working with people living with Dementia.

You will show sensitivity in your work including good empathy, communication and relationship building skills and be aware of positive person centred approaches that work well for people who live with Dementia.

You will demonstrate the ability to learn relevant practices, Dementia approaches and procedures.

You will contribute to the care planning process whilst maintaining and updating records for Key Service users.


Desirable

You may have training and experience of working in similar service areas.

You may hold a vocational care qualification e.g. NVQ/QCF 2 or equivalent and a willingness to acquire this if not already held.

You may have experience to deal with behaviour that challenges us due to the effects of Dementia.

You may be able to demonstrate a knowledge of professional care groups and external contacts e.g. GP’s, Community Mental Health team and emergency services.

You may have some knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice, for example Care Act 2014, Safeguarding Adults, Mental Capacity/Deprivation of Liberties (DOLs).


Additional Information

Please note that it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post. This means that you must declare any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings unless these are ‘protected’ as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) order 1975 (as amended in 2013).

The post holder will work a variety of 7hr -7.5hr shifts worked over a 3 day period. The timescale patterns reflect the needs of service which will include start times of 8.30am and finish times of 6pm.
