Digital Officer

Summary of Post

The Digital Officer is responsible for delivering user-focused digital content and campaigns for the council. Reporting to the Digital Manager, they will be part of a multi-disciplinary Digital team supporting the work of the council.

This is a two year limited term contract.

Main Duties

• Maintain and update the council’s public website, intranet and other websites and portals, adopting and advocating the council’s user-focused approach to website content design.
• Deliver digital marketing: following best practice approaches to plan, target, measure, refine and report on digital marketing activity across a range of channels, including social media, email marketing and digital advertising.
• Monitor social media channels, following a process to respond appropriately to questions, requests and complaints.
• Measure the performance of websites and digital campaigns, using appropriate tools to gather and interpret data.
• Support the delivery of other Digital team activity such as user research, video production, training and other project work
• Action incoming requests to the Digital inbox, ensuring internal clients understand and follow our required processes.
• Support the Digital team in the organisation and administration of its work, e.g. organising training, user research sessions, booking team meetings, etc.
• Champion digital excellence across the council. Keeping up to date with digital advancements and best practice within and outside of the sector.

Selection Criteria

• Holds a relevant degree, equivalent professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience
• Experience of writing and organising website content and taking a user-led approach to this work
• Excellent copywriting and editing skills for a range of audiences and purposes with a keen understanding of the principles of plain English
• Experience of using social media in a professional context
• Understanding of email marketing best practice
• Experience of monitoring and reporting on usage of websites and other digital channels
• Excellent interpersonal skills: able to proactively build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels; able to explain new ideas or processes to non-technical audiences.
• Excellent aptitude for learning new systems and technologies. Enthusiasm for all things digital.
• Exemplifying the Council's values and behaviours.


• Experience of Google Analytics
• An understanding of data protection principles
• An understanding of reputation management on social media
• Video production skills

Use of a vehicle

If the nature of the duties require you to travel on Council business on a regular basis, so you must either have a current driving licence and provide a car, or have access to appropriate means of travel.

If you use your vehicle on authorised Council business, you will receive a mileage payment based on the Inland Revenue Authorised Mileage Allowance Payment Scheme (AMAPS). The allowance is provided on the condition that your own insurance covers you for business use and indemnifies the Council against claim (including those concerning passengers) arising out of the use of the vehicle on official business. You will also be eligible for a car loan if you meet the criteria within the Council’s Car Loan Scheme.

Salary: £24,657 to £27,358
