Education Officer

Your key role will be to support the Senior Education Officer and Elective Home Education Teacher Support officer by offering advice and guidance to parents of Young People who are missing education or who are undertaking EHE, including:

• Carry out home visits to ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are in place for young people who are Electively Home Educated.

• Lead on prioritization of EHE- CME visits and contacts and ensure effective management of this.

• Assess risk and follow up concerns related to children and young people who are missing education.

• Support the Senior Education Officer in following through with School Attendance Orders where applicable.

• Determine and enforce compliance with both the departmental and Council policies, regulations and codes of practice.

• Provide advice to customers about compliance, legislation, regulation, policies and technical issues ensuring that effective customer relationships are established and maintained, advice provided is understood, accurate and any risks and benefits are identified.


Essential

• Qualified, at degree level, NVQ 3 or equivalent, in an appropriate discipline or have equivalent level of theoretical knowledge related to the provision of services to children and young people.

• A good level of general IT skills and the ability to use, or be trained in the use of, appropriate software packages, e.g. Microsoft office suite.

• Experience of working with schools or education settings.

• Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, processes and procedures.

• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and engage successfully with colleagues, service users and partner organisations.

• An ability to prioritise workload and to deliver to tight deadlines.

• An understanding of the Local Authorities duties in relation to Safeguarding.


Desirable

• Experience of maintain effective databases and ongoing work scheduling.

• Experience of working with families who choose to Electively Home Educate.

• An ability to work under pressure.
