About the role

This is an exciting period in the ongoing development of safeguarding within South Gloucestershire.

You will provide support, guidance and challenge to schools, post 16 services and Early Years settings within South Gloucestershire to ensure that children are kept safe and their welfare is promoted, as required by Section 175 of the Education Act 2002. Statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018), Keeping Children Safe in Education (2018) and South Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Board (SGSCB) procedures help to inform the work of this role and any good practice guidance that is developed.

You will further develop and promote high standards of safeguarding policy, procedures and practice in all educational settings that provide for South Gloucestershire children.

You will also provide lead professional advice to education and early years staff on child welfare, policy, online safety or safe working practice issues.


What we are looking for

Essential Criteria

Experience of working in an education or social care environment with demonstrable, in depth knowledge and understanding of Child Protection procedures and related legislation

Evidence of development and delivery of effective training to a range of professionals where you can evidence effective partnership working with schools and other agencies

Demonstrable ability to think and act strategically, solve problems and make decisions. You will possess high quality communication skills; written, verbal and non-verbal with children and families with the ability to tailor material to the audience.

Able to gain the respect and confidence of head teachers and develop collaborative relationships with all key partners with the ability to to lead, motivate, inspire and develop others

Ability to demonstrate understanding, compassion and empathy to young people and their families/carers with the ability to solve problems of a complex nature; show innovation; tenacity and display sensitive interpersonal skills


Excellent analytical skills with the ability to gather, analyse and present information in order to understand complex issues. You will possess well developed facilitation, negotiation influencing skills across professional disciplines, with stakeholders and at all levels



Desirable Criteria


Experience of using the SoS approach in practice, including the use of SoS as an assessment and intervention tool

Experience of working across effective multi agency partnerships to achieve common goals
