How you’ll make a difference

You can make a difference by offering effective emergency social work services outside normal working hours, where you will prioritise effectively making sound judgements in a variety of challenging situations.

What will you be doing?

You will be working within a small team of Senior Practitioners, where you will receive contacts from the public and other professionals regarding social care issues, which require an urgent response.

You will be working to a 10 week rolling rota, covering nights, weekends and bank holidays. This includes 3 weeks off rota and 1 weekend on standby.

You will be demonstrating your knowledge of legislation and statutory duties under the Children Act, Mental Health Act, Care Act and other relevant legislation and responding accordingly.

You will be up to date with good practice in all areas of social work and this will determine your action.

You will be aware of service and policy objectives and carry out action consistent with meeting those objectives.

You will work jointly with other agencies and statutory bodies (e.g. Police, Health etc.) and maintain good working relationships with those agencies.

You will complete all necessary forms, including maintaining a log of all calls received, indicating the action taken and ensuring that details are reported to the appropriate duty desk.

What we need from you

• Recognised professional Social Work qualification (Dip SW, CQSW or equivalent) and an Approved Mental Health Professional qualification, it has to be a DipSW and an AMHP qualification.

• Have direct experience of working in child protection, adult safeguarding or mental health (if not currently an AMHP)

• Ability to undertake complex risk assessments of children, families and adults and to implement risk management plans or care packages, through effective communication both verbally and in writing.

How a career at South Gloucestershire Council is different

• What’s special here is the strength of the team ethos. We are a relatively small local authority, so managers know staff well. They can plan their services to ensure teams have manageable caseloads and have effective supervision so feel supported to make decisions which are right for the children and young people they work with

• We invest in the careers of our people and we are recognised for the quality, breadth and depth of our training and development offer, which helps our people make the greatest long-term difference in their work.

Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.

• We're building and shaping communities which people are proud of

• We're working with the most vulnerable in our community to help them achieve what they want in life

• We're investing in our schools to ensure every child and young person in South Gloucestershire achieves their full potential.

We've achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference.

We’re making a difference, be part of it!
