Full Time: 37 hrs per wk.

Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.
• We're working with the most vulnerable in our community to help them achieve what they want in life
• We're investing in our schools to ensure every child and young person in South Gloucestershire achieves their full potential.
We've achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference.

As an Employment Support and Development Officer you will make a difference by …. promoting and supporting the development of opportunities, for young people and adults facing barriers progressing to employment. If you want to make a difference and use your initiative and problem solving skills this could be the role for you!

What does an average day look like?
Working as part of the skills team and linking closely with local employers you will promote and support the development of opportunities which will lead to sustained employment. You will develop work experience, job shadowing, part time work and volunteering opportunities based on a person centred approach. A varied role you will be working directly with employers and agencies, promoting job fairs, employer engagement days alongside other employment opportunities, ensuring information is available on the local offer. You will be responsible for identifying and working with other colleagues to support the development of new programmes and offers to vulnerable groups such as specialist coaching and advice and working closely with specialist providers such as special schools, colleges and community learning to support clients to access appropriate IAG and progression routes to employment.

What we need from you:
• Up-to-date knowledge and experience of implementing best practice within employment support.
• Experience of being able to work independently, and flexibly within the wider context of a small team, to effectively deliver employability, progression and learning services.
• An ability to demonstrate clear and innovative thinking in assessing challenges and problem solving.

How a career at South Gloucestershire Council is different
We know our team work best when they have balance in their lives and we offer genuine flexibility to help them achieve that work/life balance - whatever that means for them.
We value our staff as individuals, investing in their careers and we are recognised for the quality, breadth and depth of our training and development offer, which helps make the greatest long-term difference in work.
