How you’ll make a difference

You will build strategic relationships and promote our partnership’s profile boosting reputation with a wide range of Government, public and business stakeholders, supporting the production of robust research and evidence around the tangible benefits of economic geography. You will be a critical link between Chairs, partners, stakeholders and the officers delivering the high ambitions of this emerging gateway.

The Western Gateway is a new economic partnership across South Wales and Western England which aims to boost local economies by working together. The Western Gateway was launched in November 2019 and is the UK’s third powerhouse after the Northern Powerhouse and the Midlands Engine.

This is one of four newly created posts to form the secretariat of the Western Gateway partnership and is based in South Gloucestershire Council and hosts the Secretariat function administering the Western Gateway on behalf of the Members and supported by the other partner Local Authorities.

We welcome secondments for this post, you should first seek your line manager’s permission before applying.

What will you be doing?

In this role you will lead on the organisation and management of the Secretariat function.

You will manage the budget and financial accountability, working closely and offering direction and oversight to the policy officers and working closely with the Chair and Chief Executive roles supporting the Western Gateway setup.

It will be your responsibility to build strategic relationships and the partnership profiles and also the reputation with a wide range of Government, public and business stakeholders, supporting the production of robust research and evidence, focused on the tangible benefits of acceleration of this economic geography.

What we need from you:

You must have substantial management experience with a proven track record in relationship building, problem-solving and management of a complex set of stakeholders, particularly experience and/or excellent knowledge of the wider national and devolved political environment.

You will have excellent project management skills, and can drive forward parallel activities including governance, communications, research and stakeholder management.

You must be a strong influencer and will be adept at providing strategic advice to senior leaders and politicians to inform priorities and policy development.
It is crucial that you can demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and team management.

We are looking for someone that has excellent leadership skills and can use these to inspire, motivate and develop your teams to high levels of performance.
