Experienced Children's Social Workers – Referral, Assessment and MASH with £3,000 Recruitment Payment
Summary of Post
This post attracts a gross lump sum £3,000 recruitment payment offered to enable experienced Social Workers who have already successfully completed their ASYE to join our permanent workforce. This is payable upon successful completion of your probationary period (after approximately 3-6 months).
We also welcome applications from those seeking job share or part time arrangements.
Following a recent review, our senior management team have taken the initiative to proactively increase our full time permanent establishment. We are therefore looking for a number of Social Workers or Advanced Social Workers to continue, with the redevelopment of this service post MASH introduction.
South Gloucestershire Council continue to progress integrated working with the protection of vulnerable children being our number one priority. In response to this we have realigned our duty and assessment functions to form a new service which is now the Front Door for all of Integrated Children’s Services in South Gloucestershire.
We are currently unable to accept applications from those pending qualification or those seeking to complete their ASYE within this team. Therefore one year post qualifying practice is required as a minimum.
The Access and Response Team consists of three teams; Access, MASH and Response.
This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic team. We are seeking versatile, enthusiastic and experienced team members with a knowledge of signs of safety being an advantage. A snapshot of each team is listed below.
Access Team - Office Based
• Triaging referrals coming into the team
• Applying threshold for Universal Service, Early Help and Social Care
• Dealing with professionals and parents on a daily basis by telephone
• Analysing risk from the presenting information and follow up calls
MASH
• Triaging referrals coming into the team
• Applying threshold for Universal Service, Early Help and Social Care
• Dealing with professionals and parents on a daily basis by telephone
• Analysing risk from the presenting information and follow up calls Attending strategy discussions
• Completing S47 enquiries
• Attending court to gain Emergency Protection Orders
Response
• Assessing Child in Need - single assessment
• Identifying risks and participating in strategy discussion
• Using signs of safety for all work in assessment/report writing and direct work with children
• Writing Child Protection Conference reports
• Undertaking the necessary legal planning, including Legal Planning Meetings, and Public Law Outline
• Attending court to gain Emergency Protection Orders or Interim Care Orders - write care plans
• Step down Child in Need
• Child protection procedures
• Section 47 investigations
• Achieving best evidence interviews
• Covering duty
• Assessing Child in Need single assessment
Social workers must be able to drive and have access to a car.

Social Workers are usually initially appointed to the salary range: £28,221 - £30,756 however, if you already meet the Advanced Social Worker criteria we can appoint to the salary range: £31,401 - £34,106. Main Duties
We are seeking a skilled Social Worker to work within the Response Team. Under the supervision of the Team Manager, you will be able to effectively manage risk where there is risk of, or actual, significant harm to children to ensure that children are kept safe and protected from abuse. Social Workers skilled in Referral and Assessment, Front Door or MASH work are being sought.
Working in a multi-agency context, you will ensure vulnerable children and young people are identified, protected and supported to achieve positive outcomes. Assessing and identifying the needs and risks of children and young people, working with range of other agencies and disciplines to ensure that an effective prompt holistic service response is provided to children young people and their families, particularly to those at risk of significant harm.
The post is based at our Badminton Road Offices. Which is situated on the periphery of Bristol and you will provide a service across the whole of the Local Authority. South Gloucestershire is considered to be an excellent place to live and work. Selection Criteria
To enable us to shortlist in a fair and unbiased way it is absolutely vital that you provide us with sufficient information to demonstrate how you meet or exceed the criteria outlined in the vacancy description. Essential
Recognised and relevant professional qualification e.g. DipSW, CQSW, CSS, plus completion of the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment as required, or working towards this. Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
You will demonstrate specialist up to date knowledge of the service area of child protection, Public Law outline, Children in Need and Looked after children and be able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
Effective interpersonal skills and experience of working with a broad range of people including families in a social care settings
You will be able to carry out good quality analytical assessments and outcome focussed care plans, communicate findings and risks to families
You will be able to keep detailed and accurate records
Evidence of on-going continuous professional development and a thorough knowledge of current legislation and practice relating to children and young people’s services
Effective communication and relationship building skills, including handling difficult and sensitive issues.
Evidence of a good level of general IT skills and the ability to use, or be trained in the use of, appropriate specialist in-house software packages.
Full clean drivers licence and access to a car to travel to a range of locations including home visits.
