Summary of Post

This is your opportunity to take an integral role within Community Services working in partnership with Community Care and Housing will provide a responsive, fast, efficient, courteous and cost effective handy van service within South Gloucestershire as follows: The role is based across our Broad Lane Depot however you will be site based carrying out repairs and offering advice to customers in their own homes will be a key function of this post and therefore the post-holder will be required to provide a responsive and customer friendly service

Main Duties

1. Undertake various tasks using accepted trade practices such as plumbing, carpentry, plastering, concreting, brick laying and decorating. etc

2. Refer to drawings, plans, sketches, work tickets etc. for information
3. Complete all necessary paperwork such as timesheets, job tickets etc. and submit on a timely basis

4. Make arrangements/appointments with customer client to undertake works as necessary

5. Make arrangements to procure materials and plant necessary to complete works

6. Maintain vehicles, plant and equipment in a satisfactory condition by routine checks as specified.

7. Operate safely all mechanical plant and power tools such as drills, saws and breakers etc. and to report any defects immediately

8. To promote best practice in meeting the requirements of Health and Safety legislation and to comply with other relevant statutory legislation

9. Ensure that output and quality of work is of the highest standard and accords with current legislation/regulations

10. Recognise and deal appropriately with hazardous situations. Deal with general public in normal course of duties

11. Undertake such other duties that are required from time to time within the context of a post of this nature


Selection Criteria

Essential

City and Guilds or Craft Training Certificate (NVQ) in a relevant trade (or equivalent)

Demonstrate a general technical knowledge of building maintenance and construction

Proven track record of delivering high quality work

Understanding of Health and Safety Regulations

Willingness to undertake training to extend the range of skills

Be able to demonstrate a high level of customer care

Must have driving licence


Desirable

Ability to calculate costs/ bills for payment

Conversant with basic IT

Previous experience within a similar work environment




Additional Information

Street Care maintain the outdoor asset on behalf of South Gloucestershire Council comprising of:

The maintenance and cleanliness of 1600km of roads
Repair and maintenance of 32,000 streetlights
20,000 requests for service
Grounds Maintenance works on 4,500,000sq.m of grass, play areas along with shrub beds and hedgerows
Maintenance of 300 vehicles

Street Care has approximately 300 employees and an annual turnover of approximately £20 million.

Use of a vehicle

If the nature of the duties require you to travel on Council business on a regular basis, so you must either have a current driving licence and provide a car, or have access to appropriate means of travel.

If you use your vehicle on authorised Council business, you will receive a mileage payment based on the Inland Revenue Authorised Mileage Allowance Payment Scheme (AMAPS). The allowance is provided on the condition that your own insurance covers you for business use and indemnifies the Council against claim (including those concerning passengers) arising out of the use of the vehicle on official business. You will also be eligible for a car loan if you meet the criteria within the Council’s Car Loan Scheme.
