South Gloucestershire Council are seeking an ICT Help Desk Apprentice to provide ICT hardware and software support to schools and other young people’s establishments, either by onsite visits, telephone support or remote access as appropriate.

Throughout the 19 month apprenticeship you be trained and gain work experience of carrying out a variety of duties such as;

•Routine hardware and software maintenance
•Installation and configuration of new hardware and software as well as hardware repairs
•Service desk calls or installations

You will receive supervision, guidance and support from your workplace supervisor and a workplace mentor. As part of the apprenticeship you will complete Level 3 Infrastructure Technician at Gloucestershire College, to commence on the 8th April 2019. (Travel to Cheltenham Campus is required for which travel and parking costs will be reimbursed).

Please note that you will be expected to undertake a basic skills assessment as part of the selection process. This will be emailed to you by the college to complete by a specific date.

It is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post. This means that you must declare any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings unless these are protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) order 1975 (amended in 2013).

Main Duties

•To provide ICT hardware and software support to schools and other establishments, either by telephone, remote access or onsite visits as appropriate. This to include hardware repairs and redundant kit disposal; routine system, hardware and software maintenance; testing, installation and configuration of new hardware and software.
•To record and maintain an accurate log of all calls and work undertaken on the ICT Service desk system.
•Provide hardware maintenance service to our customers.
•To provide advice to coordinators and managers of establishments on the sustainability and development of their ICT infrastructure and systems.

Selection Criteria

Essential

•Must hold a minimum qualification of 3 grade C’s at GCSE (or Grade 4-9) including English, Maths, or equivalent or be willing to work towards Level 2 in English and Maths.

•Good research and problem solving skills

•Excellent IT and numeracy skills

•Able to communicate well with others, in order to provide an excellent customer service.

Travel to and from the college and parking costs will be reimbursed.
