Summary of post

The post holder will be one of a number of Senior Engineers who provide technical expertise for an engineering domain within Integra ICT. Under the supervision of the IT & Infrastructure Services Manager, this role provides proactive monitoring, 2nd 3rd level support and problem resolution to ensure that business application platforms are available in line with, and where possible, surpassing Service Level Agreements.

The Infrastructure team is responsible a number of areas. Communications and Services denotes the area covering technologies such as Network, Telephony, Wireless, Security and associated services such as Domain Name System (DNS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) that are required for all systems to function and communicate properly. Virtualisation and Storage denotes the areas of the physical compute and data storage solutions that all virtual servers run on or that are involved in data/system backup.
This role is primarily responsible for maintaining and developing Office 356 within the education, public and private sector, together with integration to other cloud service providers.

The Design and Transition area is where concepts become a reality whether that is an in-house development or system upgrade. Working with the IT & Infrastructure Services Manager you will be responsible for creating the technical design within published architectural constraints as well as working with other technical work streams on strategy formulation. Service transition is a technical area focussing on documenting the transition process and facilitating the build, test, install, hand-over to other ICT workstreams, upgrade and retirement of ICT solutions.

Main duties

This role will provide 2nd & 3rd level support and problem management to ensure that business application platforms are available in line with, and surpassing Service Level Agreements.

Maintain a high level of specialist skills and knowledge in relevant areas of IT, including systems analysis, programming, networking and operating systems in order to provide an effective and professional IT service.

Provide specialist advice on IT issues, to enable the Authority to make the most effective use of IT to achieve its objectives especially regarding remote working systems.

Make a senior contribution to the planning, monitoring and control of projects to implement major new IT developments.

Manage large scale projects to implement IT and developments. Prepare project plans including resource requirements, estimated timescales and costs. Monitor and report on progress and take corrective action where necessary.

Make a senior contribution to the delivery of IT services to the Authority against agreed service levels, outcomes and costs. This involves making a major contribution to the preparation of service delivery plans and to monitoring and reporting on performance.

Maintain a high-level of awareness of current developments in areas of IT that may be of value to the Authority.

Selection Criteria:

Essential Criteria:

A degree in a computer related field, or the equivalent demonstrable ICT technical expertise and/or relevant vendor technical qualifications such as Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft, VMWare etc, together with a proven record of managing and delivering a service, in a complex operating environment, in a technical discipline. Relevant ICT disciplines include Incident Management, Event Management & Problem Management as well as one or more of the following as appropriate:
Design and Transition Office 365
• Software Development
• Consultancy
• Integration

Solid experience and knowledge of standard and non-standard software packages, and in house systems appropriate to their area:
Design and Transition Office 365
• Full Office 365 suite including Sharepoint Online, Dynamics CRM, ADFS etc
• As well as some knowledge and experience of technologies such as SQL, end-user device and network infrastructure, ICT security, and local government business systems.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including report writing and explanation of technical information to non-technical audiences.

Ability to plan and progress work activities within general professional guidelines and organisational policy, in order to deliver an excellent customer service.

Experience gained from working in the education sector or technical service provider with a significant online operation such as an ISP, Cloud or Managed Service Provider.

Desirable Criteria:

Vendor security or technical related qualifications, Cisco, Microsoft, VMWare etc

Experience of delivering a service in a large, complex organisation, at a time of significant change.
