Infrastructure Engineer required for a permanent position in the South Gloucestershire Council.

You will be joining a highly innovative organisation who have the highest expectations for their technology and services. This opportunity will be challenging and technically varied, so a diverse engineering skill set across Storage and Server environments is essential. You will have the chance to work across the latest technologies and get involved in design and deployment of new solutions.

In one aspect of the role you will be providing 3rd line operational support of the business-critical infrastructure ensuring that capacity and performance always meets business needs. In the other you will get involved in a variety of challenging projects. As such it is essential you have full experience of an all encompassed Infrastructure role covering Active Directory Management, Windows Server, Virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V), SAN Storage (Nimble, Netapp, HP).

Main Duties

Build/ maintenance and monitoring of infrastructure platforms.

Give technical advice and guidance, support and training to colleagues to ensure that performance objectives are achieved

Maintain quality documentation of infrastructure and escalation procedures.

Managing company servers and storage infrastructure.

Preparation and presentation of reports ensuring that they are completed on time and meet Council guidelines. Ensure a clear summary of issues and implications is produced.




Selection Criteria

To enable us to shortlist in a fair and unbiased way it is absolutely vital that you provide us with sufficient information to demonstrate how you meet or exceed the criteria outlined in the vacancy description. Essential

A degree in a computer related field, or the equivalent demonstrable ICT technical expertise and/or relevant vendor technical qualifications such as Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft, VMWare etc, together with a proven record of managing and delivering a service, in a complex operating environment.

MS Windows Server 2003/2008/2008R2/2012/2012R/2016 and 2019 exposure beneficial.

Active Directory and Group Policy management

Excellent working knowledge of virtual environments- in particular Hyper-V- Build / Support and administration. Strong experience with VMware would also be considered.

Experience working with DNS, DHCP, DFS/FRS, Failover Clusters.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills including report writing and explanation of technical information to no-technical audiences.

Ability to plan and progress work activities with a general professional guidelines and organisational policy, in order to deliver and excellent customer service.

Desirable

ITIL or other ICT Service Management qualification

Experience gained from working in a private sector, technical service provider with a significant online operation such as ISP, Cloud or Managed Service Provider

Experience of delivering a service in a large, complex organisation, at a time of significant change
