Engagement Worker (Family and Young People Support )

Summary of Post

Under the supervision of a Senior Worker, the role will be responsible for the day to day delivery of early intervention and preventative services for families, children and young people in need of additional support. The focus of these services is targeted work, with some statutory functions, with a primary aim to ensure vulnerable children and young people are identified, protected and supported to achieve positive outcomes through the provision of well planned, integrated and coordinated services.

The responsibilities of the FYPS team (Families and Young People Support) include:

• Targeted family support;
• Families in Focus work;
• Targeted youth support;
• Young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) case work;
• NEET/EET cohort tracking;
• Accreditation
• Independent return interviews for children who have been missing.


The post is based in the North (Patchway Hub).
Interviews are scheduled 8th July 2019.

• 10 FTE Senior Engagement workers
• 12 FTE Engagement Workers
• 1FTE Primary Mental health Specialist
• 1 FTE Job centre Advisor (Troubled Families)

Main Duties

Engagement Worker key responsibilities include:

• Direct work with your own caseload of families and/or young people working to agreed outcomes based an assessment of need. Use evidence based interventions that are known to be effective, working closely with all involved agencies and using the Team around the Child/Family approach;
Contribute to team and service developments as agreed;

• Contribute to evidence-based parenting programmes (which could include facilitating with support from a Senior Worker);

• Signpost and/or refer service users to specialist support (such as criminal justice, drugs and alcohol, sexual health and pregnancy or mental health) as part of agreed plans;

• Undertake statutory functions relating to young people’s participation in education, training and employment (EET) and to children missing from home;

• Attend multi-agency meetings as agreed with your supervisor;

• Complete and present records and reports in accordance with professional and council guidelines

• Undertake risk assessments in order to ensure that needs are assessed and appropriate action is taken.

• Liaise and work with contacts from different sectors, including health and the voluntary sector, sometimes as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that communication is effective and that knowledge and best practice are shared



Selection Criteria

Essential

Qualified at NVQ 3 or equivalent in a relevant discipline, or working towards an appropriate qualification related to the provision of services to children and young people.

Considerable relevant experience of the use of evidence based practice working with vulnerable and disadvantaged children, families or young people

Experience of writing holistic multi agency assessments and plans with families

Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice; processes and procedures.

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and engage successfully with colleagues, service users and partner organisations.

A good level of general IT skills and the ability to use appropriate software systems to record and evaluate work.

DBS

Please note that it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post. This means that you must declare any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings unless these are protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) order 1975 (as amended in 2013).

Use of a vehicle

The nature of the duties of this post will require you to travel on Council business on a regular basis, so you must either have a current driving licence and provide a car, or have access to appropriate means of travel.

If you use your vehicle on authorised Council business, you will receive a mileage payment based on the Inland Revenue Authorised Mileage Allowance Payment Scheme (AMAPS). The allowance is provided on the condition that your own insurance covers you for business use and indemnifies the Council against claim (including those concerning passengers) arising out of the use of the vehicle on official business. You will also be eligible for a car loan if you meet the criteria within the Council’s Car Loan Scheme.
