Finance Officer

Summary of Post

The Finance Officer posts play an important role in supporting the Council Departments. Under the direction of the Financial Management Support Manager, the Finance Officer will be based in the transaction team and will support the delivery of a range of quality and cost effective financial management and financial support services.

This post is LTC (12 months).

Key responsibilities:
• Ensure Payment deadlines and timetable are adhered to.
• Planning and co-ordinating a range of financial support, departmental processes and systems to deliver accurate and timely outputs for both internal and external customers.
• Focus on efficiency and development in the delivery of a range of performance indicators to meet services the expectations of the departmental customers
• To manage, lead and develop and motivate the team on a day to day basis to provide a high quality customer responsive and value for money service.
• To liaise with departments and ensure effective working relationships are fostered.
• Provision of financial advice and support to key stakeholders involving access to the main accounting systems, use of spreadsheets and Payment Systems.

Selection Criteria

You will have or be able to achieve a good understanding of local government and will have worked in a similar service area.

You will hold or be working towards a relevant professional/technical qualification.

You will have well developed interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and engage successfully with contacts and customers.

You will have experience of working flexibly in a team and across different areas of activity.

You will have good numeracy, literacy, report writing, presentation and IT skills.

You will be able to undertake effective research and present findings in a clear, concise format.

You will have demonstrable experience of meeting service standards, targets and deadlines.

You will be able to work cope with competing demands and deliver to deadlines.

You will have a good level of general IT skills and the ability to use appropriate specialist in-house payment software packages such as SWIFT and softbox.

You will have ability to supervise and allocate work to others, monitoring their.
