What does a typical day look like?

You will manage and lead the Strategic Major Sites team to ensure the timely, effective, and efficient processing of planning applications relating to the council’s strategic development allocations and to ensure a professional and customer focused service is provided to the residents and businesses of South Gloucestershire.

You will lead the planning and delivery of new communities and major strategic development sites, to bring forward well planned sustainable developments which meet the aspirations and needs of local communities, the Council’s strategic policy objectives and national and local planning policy.

You will be working closely with the council’s senior and corporate management teams and will need to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key partners, members and local enterprise partnerships, e.g. West of England Local Economic Partnership; Environment Agency; Highways Agency; and significant landowner and developer partners.

What we need from you:

Ideally you will have relevant practical experience of working to plan and deliver activity in relevant services in order to meet statutory requirements within the service areas.

You will have degree or equivalent academic qualification in a relevant discipline, such as spatial planning, ecology, conservation, archaeology or urban design etc.

You will be a competent, experienced team manager, good at problem solving whilst empowering your team, and great at working in partnership with individuals and teams across the council and externally.

You will have extensive experience of negotiation, of organising/delivering effective consultation and participation with representatives of other public and private organisations and businesses, consultants and agents, a wide range of community groups and members of the public.

You will have comprehensive knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulatory framework for the provision of the service.
