This role is to provide temporary support to the Food Health and Safety team to enable them to focus on higher risk work priorities for Q4 of 2019/20 and enable the team to achieve their work programme. As this is for a short period it is essential that the applicant has previous relevant experience.
This post will be based at our Badminton Road Office.

Main Duties

1) To receive, review and process completed self-assessment questionnaires returned by food businesses. Use knowledge of food businesses, legal duties and risk to identify any businesses that require a food inspection from an Authorised Officer. To input details from the questionnaire to the in house data management system and apply a risk rating score in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice.

2) To receive from contractors, food hygiene and standards inspections and input details and documents to the in house data management system.

3) At peak times, undertake work to support the food response officer in responding to service requests within their competence.

4) Where Environmental Health is the nominated lead organisation for single Infectious Disease cases, complete questionnaires with cases and discuss findings with the response officer

5) To respond to requests from food businesses for Food Export Certificates, in liaison with Authorised officers

6) To maintain supplies of food, water and environment sampling equipment and documentation required for the operation of the food sampling programme

7) Provide support to the Food Health and Safety team in matters within the post holders competence


Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria

• Previous experience of reviewing and processing self-assessment questionnaires from food businesses and using the Food Law Code of Practice risk scoring procedure

• Previous experience of discussing confidential matters with the public, in particular discussing cases of infectious disease with patients

• You must be well organised with the ability to understand health risk associated with food businesses

• Ability to prioritise work to meet the demands of the role within a reactive service, to undertake a wide variety of tasks and pay meticulous attention to detail

• Ability to use tact and diplomacy skills to gain the trust and confidence of members of the public

• Experience of handling people’s personal data in accordance with data protection requirements


Desirable Criteria

• Experience of working in an Environmental Health team
