who are at risk of rough sleeping


1625 Independent People is a leading youth homeless charity based in the South West, working with over 2,500 young people. We have strong local partnerships and adhere to the best practice in the sector. We build trusting relationships between our young people and our colleagues and this is at the core of our work.

Working in partnership with Second Step, we are piloting a new approach with care leavers who are at risk of rough sleeping and who have complex needs, including mental health needs, drug and alcohol problems, and involvement in the criminal justice system.

We know that current services don’t work for everyone. This pilot offers you an opportunity to work with a small caseload; with huge scope for innovation and creative ways of working to really change the lives of some of the most vulnerable young people in Somerset; identifying gaps in provision and supporting joined up working to ensure every young person can access and sustain suitable and safe accommodation. This role offers an exciting personal development opportunity to deliver an innovative trauma-recovery model. A comprehensive package of training and support will ensure you are able to succeed in a demanding role.



Contract details:


Working hours: 2 posts – part-time or full-time

Salary: £20,800 - £22,825 (pro rata for part-time)

Contract: 12 months initially, with the possibility of extension, subject to funding.

Location: Somerset – choice of work base in Taunton, Yeovil, Street or Minehead



You will bring experience of supporting young people who may be hard to reach, knowledge of the challenges facing care leavers and strong engagement skills with the ability to build and sustain relationships with service users. You will have a commitment to promoting independence and supporting vulnerable young people in developing move on and recovery plans.

You will receive a full training and development programme with access to the tools to support and develop your practice, including case reviews, regular supervision, and reflective practice.
