South Gloucestershire Council is seeking a Payroll Administrator apprentice to work in the Payroll Services team at our Badminton Road Office in Yate. This is a work based apprenticeship with a mix of 1-2-1 and online learning.

Over the duration of the 24 month apprenticeship you will complete a Level 3 Payroll Apprenticeship and be trained and gain work experience of carrying out a variety of duties competently and effectively. These will include;

•Assisting with the payment of salaries to a specific group of monthly paid employees.
•Examination of appointment forms, setting up new employee records and processing subsequent permanent changes, whilst ensuring there is compliance with auto enrolment regulations.
•Processing leavers, calculate final pay, produce and despatch P45’s and pension scheme documentation.
•Examining and processing timesheets, overtime, and other temporary variation forms including sickness and absence returns.

You will also develop knowledge of Statutory and Occupational rules regarding Maternity, Sick, Adoption and Paternity Pay, and compliance with Income Tax and National Insurance Contribution legislation and Pension Scheme regulations.

As an apprentice you will receive supervision, guidance and support from your workplace supervisor, and a workplace mentor.

Please note that you will be expected to undertake a basic skills assessment as part of the selection process, which will be emailed to you by the training provider. This must be completed by 24th April 2019.

Main Duties

Collect information and maintain records or databases to provide information for use by others.

Support the service by performing tasks in a specialist area ensuring that problematic or complex issues are raised with senior staff.
You will provide customers with basic information ensuring that an effective courteous customer service is given.

Prepare documents and other materials for use in the specialist area to a good, accurate standard using some non-standard formats and software.

Provide support at meetings as well as supporting internal and external events.

Assist in the maintenance of financial records and review of data to ensure accuracy.

Follow established ordering procedures for resources and contribute to resource planning ensuring that there are sufficient resources to meet service requirements.

Selection Criteria

Essential

•Must hold a minimum of 3 GCSE A*-C (or Grade 4-9) or equivalent qualification in English and Maths or be willing to work towards gaining a Level 2 in English and Maths.

•Good numeracy skills and attention to detail.

•Good IT skills including knowledge of standard software packages and ability to be trained on bespoke software and databases.

•Demonstrate good communication skills: in writing, in person and on the telephone.

•Able to use initiative and be motivated with a willingness to learn.


Additional Information

The post is based at the Council Offices, Badminton Road, Yate, South Gloucestershire.

This is a limited term contract for 24 months.
