We have vacancies for School Crossing Patrols at the following schools -

• St Michael’s Winterbourne

5 Hours per week – £9.00 per hour

All these posts are for morning and afternoon shifts Monday - Friday but we would consider job share and also flexible working. For example, we would consider someone only wanting a morning or afternoon shift.

Training and uniform provided.

These posts would suit people who live locally as they are for approximately 30 minutes each morning and 30 minutes each afternoon and is term time only.

Main Duties

To enter the carriageway at a designated SCP site in order to stop traffic and enable children and other people wishing to cross the road to cross the road at the Patrol site, in accordance with appropriate law (Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984) and the instructions laid down in South Gloucestershire’s “SCP Handbook”.

Ensure the safety and orderliness of children/pedestrians approaching or waiting at the crossing point.

Ensure the safety of children/pedestrians as they cross the road at the Patrol site.

Where Pelican or other light-controlled crossings are used, to follow the instructions laid down in the SCP Code of Practice and ensure children/pedestrians cross only on the appropriate phase.

Where appropriate to operate or check ‘wig-wag’ warning lights.

To build and maintain the necessary good relations with pupils, parents and staff of the schools served by the patrol site.

Without compromising road safety, through efficient and effective operation of the Crossing site, to build and maintain good relations with drivers, cyclists and other forms of road traffic encountered at the Crossing site.

To report any incidents, accidents or breaches of traffic law to the SCP Service Co-ordinator, according to instructions laid down in the SCP Code of Practice.

To ensure the safety of the SCP site and its environs and to report any problems or hazards (e.g. temporary road works adjacent to site) to the SCP Service Co-ordinator.

Additional Information

Please note that it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post. This means that you must declare any criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings unless these are ‘protected’ as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) order 1975 (as amended in 2013).

School Crossing Patrols provide a really valuable service to local children and to the community. They make a real difference to the safety of children at the beginning and end of the school day. We offer good rates of pay, short hours – 30-40 minutes each morning and afternoon and great job satisfaction.
