How you’ll make a difference

You will make a difference as a Senior Education Officer by providing expert advice and assistance in the implementation of the authority’s statutory responsibilities with regards to school attendance, school exclusion, performance licensing, child employment, Children Missing Education and Elective Home Education.

What will I be doing?

You will assess risk and follow up concerns related to young people who are missing education You may carry out home visits to ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are in place for young people who are home educated.

You will be responsible for the preparation, organisation and presenting of prosecutions in Magistrates Court in relation to irregular school attendance of children, you will therefore be required to be able to travel. You will also authorise and issue Penalty Notices for non-school attendance and take lead responsibility for Education Supervision Orders and Parenting Order enforcement. You will be required to chair Attendance Panel Review meetings.Therefore you will be required to communicate with colleagues, service users and partner organisations.
You will provide support to the Team Leader and where appropriate cover duties associated with exclusions and administering Fair Access Panel meetings.

What we need from you:

You will be qualified, at degree level, NVQ4 or equivalent, in Education or an appropriate discipline or have equivalent level of theoretical knowledge related to the provision of services to children and young people.
You will need considerable experience of working with schools or education settings including knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and codes of practice, processes and procedures.

You should also be able to prioritise your workload and be able to work independently.
