Further information

How you’ll make a difference
You will make a difference as a Senior Planning Officer by making South Gloucestershire a better place to live, visit and work in, by contributing towards a high quality built environment for the enjoyment of all residents and our visitors.

What does a typical day look like?
You will be responsible for answering general enquiries and determining the variety of planning applications with a primary focus on the more complex minors and major applications. This will involve negotiating with applicants, developers, agents and third parties to reduce the adverse impact of proposals to achieve more acceptable outcomes.
The role will include the undertaking of site inspections, negotiations and preparation of reports to the committee or under officer delegation arrangements in order to implement the Council’s land use and transport policies through individual decisions in applications.
A crucial part of your work will be to prepare written appeal statements, and present evidence at hearings, public enquiries and at court proceedings.
The nature of the duties of this post will require you to travel on Council business on a regular basis, so you must either have a current driving license and provide a car, or have access to appropriate means of travel.

- What’s special here is the strength of the team ethos, the support and the training.

What we need from you:
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in Town Planning or a related subject and have full membership of Royal Town Planning Institute.
Able to demonstrate considerable relevant experience in planning practice.
Have excellent customer service skills.

Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.
We're building and shaping communities which people are proud of
We're planning for the future; building and improving the roads, railways, schools, green spaces, and houses.
