How you’ll make a difference

You will make a difference by improving the services provided to and the experiences of children and families accessing social care services in South Gloucestershire. We remain firmly focused on our improvement journey within Integrated Children’s Services. We have full support within the council to invest permanently to create a full time Service Manager for Improvement, following a previously successful interim trial of this post. We want our services to be rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and need an experienced improvement specialist to support this.

What does a typical day look like?

Understandably, this is a highly demanding role, but you will not be alone. We have a fully supportive team of council leaders, senior management, fellow social workers and wider support functions from Recruitment to Finance - all with the same drive to achieve the same goal.
As a key part of the Senior Management Team for Integrated Children’s Services, this role involves identifying areas that require improvement and working with the relevant service to agree and implement these.

How a career at South Gloucestershire Council is different

What’s special here is the strength of the team ethos. We are a relatively small local authority, so managers know staff well. They can plan their services to ensure teams have manageable caseloads and have effective supervision so feel supported to make decisions which are right for the children and young people they work with.

What we need from you:

• You will have a proven track record of senior management within Children and Young Peoples Services (including budgetary and resource management) with significant evidence of leading service improvement in all service areas.
• Registered with Social Work England, you will have an in depth understanding of the national issues and legal framework relating to Children and Young People.
• You will be a strategic, long term planner with commissioning, project management and change management skills along with knowledge of the Outcome Based Accountability model.
• You will be a skilled communicator, able to negotiate with and influence colleagues and partners at all levels.

Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.

We're working with the most vulnerable in our community to help them achieve what they want in life. We've achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference.

We’re making a difference: be part of it!
