Setting Support Officer

This post is part time, 18.5 hours a week and a limited term contract to cover maternity leave which is due to end 30 Nov 2020.

Hours to be worked over Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Summary of Post

You will be joining the South Glos Early Years Team which has consistently improved and developed excellent practice in the sector over a number of years.

The role will enable you to build positive professional relationships with private, voluntary or independent pre-schools, play groups, nurseries and child minders.

You will be involved in developing, delivering and monitoring the impact of high quality training. You will provide advice and guidance to support settings to effectively meet the needs of all of their children and to help them develop high quality early years practice.

You will have the opportunity to work with colleagues, both within and beyond the Early Years Team, on numerous projects.

Main Duties

Research, analyse and evaluate information which may include legislative and regulatory areas to enhance decision making. Provide good technical advice to customers ensuring that procedures and good practice are shared.

Support the delivery of designated areas of work by co-ordinating day to day operations and contribute to developing projects and processes.

Ensure customers are well informed and that information provided is useful, relevant and given on time.

Take action to refer issues as necessary in accordance with Safeguarding Procedures in order to protect vulnerable children, young people and practitioners.

Contribute both to the monitoring of projects and reporting on cost effectiveness and quality standards and to the establishing, implementing and reviewing service standards and performance measures.

Ensure that accurate records are developed and maintained and that this information is assessed and analysed.

Establish good working relationships with customers which will lead to strong standards being established and developed at all levels.

Communicate changes in policy and working practice to keep customers up to date and ensure all procedures and systems are updated accordingly

Maintain high quality and consistent services to customers. Ownership is taken for responding to and/or resolving queries, complaints and requests from initial contact with the customer

Provide an effective administration service ensuring that documents are prepared and issued and where appropriate returns are received and analysed

Accurately and efficiently record, monitor and maintain budgets/financial information/resources and ensure that accounts are reconciled and variances are reported.

Selection Criteria

Essential

Considerable experience of working with children in an early years setting and in particular those children who have special educational needs or those vulnerable to disadvantage or underachievement

A good understanding of the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum including its assessment requirements and the statutory requirements for pre-school settings.

A relevant childcare qualification (e.g. at least the level of NNEB, DCE, NVQ3 in Early Years and Childcare or a teaching qualification) and GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C or above

You will have well developed interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and engage successfully with contacts and customers, for example early years providers

You will have experience of working flexibly in a team and across different areas of activity, in order to appreciate how your role fits into the wider early years’ service.

You will have experience of developing and presenting training and briefings to providers and/or other professionals.

You will be able to undertake effective research into early year’s legislation, regulations and best practice, and present recent findings in a clear, concise format

You will have demonstrable experience of meeting service standards, targets and deadlines, including report writing, presentation and IT skills

A commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable

NVQ4 level qualification in relevant field

Experience and/or qualification in teaching adults would be advantageous, as would experience of working in an advisory role

Experience of taking a lead role e.g. of a project or similar
