We currently have the opportunity for qualified and experienced Social Workers to join our team. This team has a full complement of ASYEs currently so newly qualified social workers need not apply. This is a Limited Term post covering secondment.

As a Social Worker working in a busy office the post holder will be part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team working to implement the SEND agenda for children and young people across South Gloucestershire. Social workers have a varied caseload of disabled children who are Children in Need (CIN), Looked after children (LAC) and Children in Need (CIN).

The 0-25 Disability Service exists to improve outcomes and make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people with SEND, and their families, who require support as well as young adults who have eligible education & training, health and social care needs.

You will work with other Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Special Educational Needs (SEN) practitioners and will have a case load of children and young people between ages of 0-18. The post holder will be responsible for assessing need and producing Care plans for children and young people in conjunction with their families and other professionals. You will be managed and supervised by a 0-25 Senior Practitioner with significant experience.

You will demonstrate effective key working practice in complex situations, assessing and managing high levels of risk, striking a balance between support and challenge, meeting outcomes, liaising with a wide range of qualified practitioners and professionals, including more senior levels. You will manage a complex caseload, including children and young people in need, who need to be safeguarded and children who are looked after. You will model good practice and have knowledge and understanding of legislation and guidance which specifically relates to disabled children, young people and their families.

Social Workers are usually initially appointed to the salary range: £28,221 - £30,756 however, if you already meet the Advanced Social Worker criteria we can appoint to the salary range: £31,401 - £34,106. Main Duties

• Carry out assessment of needs, providing advice and guidance to service users and their carers, in order to establish care plans where appropriate, ensuring that services are effective and meet legislation, regulations and codes of practice.

• Review and monitor care plans and the quality of service provision, responding to changing needs and renegotiating service provision where appropriate.

• Manage own caseload or specific projects to ensure specialist inputs are obtained and effective outcomes achieved.

• Raise awareness of a range of care issues and their implications and carry out risk assessments where appropriate, in order to ensure that needs are assessed and appropriate action is taken.

• Liaise and work with contacts from different sectors, including health and the voluntary sector, sometimes as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that communication is effective and that knowledge and best practice are shared.

• Complete and present records and reports in accordance with professional and council guidelines.

• Take necessary action in accordance with Safeguarding procedures in order to protect vulnerable children and young people.

• Make recommendations for significant budget spend ensuring that maximum value is delivered for the resources deployed and contribute to budget management or directly manage a small designated budget. This will ensure that the maximum value is delivered for the resources deployed.

• Represent the Council’s interests ensuring that the Council’s position is advocated.




Selection Criteria

To enable us to shortlist in a fair and unbiased way it is absolutely vital that you provide us with sufficient information to demonstrate how you meet or exceed the criteria outlined in the vacancy description. Essential

You will hold a professional qualification in social work or equivalent (eg DipSW, CQSW, CSS or NVQ 4). Registration with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC).

You will demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, processes and procedures for disabled children, children in need and safeguarding.

You will have post qualification experience of working in a statutory Local Authority children’s services setting.

Excellent Assessment and Analytical Skills - You will be able to carry out good quality analytical assessments and outcome focused care plans, communicate findings and risks to families. Effective care planning skills to produce child and outcome focused plans for children.

Evidence of on-going continuous professional development

Effective interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills, including handling difficult and sensitive issues.

Evidence of a good level of general IT skills and the ability to use, or be trained in the use of, appropriate specialist in-house software packages.

You will be able to keep detailed and accurate records.

Full clean drivers licence and access to a car to travel to a range of locations including home visits.

Use of a vehicle

The nature of the duties of this post will require you to travel on Council business on a regular basis, so you must either have a current driving licence and provide a car, or have access to appropriate means of travel.

If you use your vehicle on authorised Council business, you will receive a mileage payment based on the Inland Revenue Authorised Mileage Allowance Payment Scheme (AMAPS). The allowance is provided on the condition that your own insurance covers you for business use and indemnifies the Council against claim (including those concerning passengers) arising out of the use of the vehicle on official business. You will also be eligible for a car loan if you meet the criteria within the Council’s Car Loan Scheme.
