Street Care Lead Operative
(Gully Emptying / Road Sweeping)

Summary of Post

Carrying out routine mechanical street cleansing duties including road sweeping and gully emptying throughout the South Gloucestershire area to an acceptable standard, using appropriate tools, plant, equipment and vehicles.

Interviews due 30th and 31st July.

Main Duties

To undertake the collection / clearing of arising detritus on streets or in gullies through either mechanical or manual methods.

The postholder will be responsible for duties associated with HGV driving and safe / effective operation of the vehicle.

To complete electronic records of works undertaken using ICT equipment provided.

To dispose of all waste arising in an effective manner and in accordance with the Duty of Care requirements and other appropriate waste legislation.

Working out of normal working hours maybe required, for which the appropriate enhancement will be paid.

Selection Criteria

To enable us to shortlist in a fair and unbiased way it is absolutely vital that you provide us with sufficient information to demonstrate how you meet or exceed the criteria outlined in the vacancy description. • Experience of face to face contact with the public within a working environment showing competency in customer care

• Be able to interpret and follow health and safety advice and regulations relevant to the post as instructed through written instruction and procedures/risk assessments, verbal advice, and toolbox talks

• Experience in using mobile working technologies such as hand-held devices

• Driving licence and CPC to category C with no restrictions.

• Be able to demonstrate a good level of literacy and able to interpret information. Instructions, maps and specifications from paper or on hand held technology.

• Detailed experience in horticultural or gardening services or street cleansing services (based on post applicable)


• Experience of driving mechanical street sweeper

• Experience of driving HGV gully emptying lorry

• Driving licence and CPC to category C + E with no restrictions.

Additional Information

You will be working outside all day in all weathers, working on grass verges, footpaths, etc. and near to traffic and subsequent fumes and noise.

The work may involve extensive walking so physical fitness is essential and may involve standing and/or walking all day with frequent manual handling including bending and lifting.
